Received the Award of Excellence in the Ministry of the Environment's Corporate Awards for Environmental Leadership Development 2020 (Awarded March 22, 2021)

FANCL was awarded the Award of Excellence in the Corporate Awards for Environmental Leadership Development 2020 sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment. This was the third consecutive year that we received this award. These awards are a system aimed at recognizing corporations conducting exceptional initiatives to develop talent who will lead efforts to ensure the greenness of the social economy and lead environmental conservation efforts toward the achievement of SDGs.
We are focused on providing employees with environmental education with the aim of contributing to the environment through every aspect of our business activities. The encouragement provided by this award will fuel our ongoing efforts to come together as a group to practice sustainable management.

Received a Legend Award in the Sustainability Awards 2020 - Communicating Sustainability to Japan (February 1, 2021)

The Sustainability Awards 2020 - Communicating Sustainability to Japan were hosted by the Afu-no-Wa 2030 Project, a collaborative project between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of the Environment that aims to promote sustainability in food, agriculture, forestry, and fishing industries. FANCL received a Legend Award for a video introducing sustainability initiatives in our Kale Juice production processes in Ehime Prefecture.
The goal of this video contest is to showcase the initiatives of communities, producers, and businesses that provide sustainable products and services based on Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns.

FANCL’s Kale Juice is a sustainable product made in a way that pays careful attention to keeping soil healthy and fully utilizes recycling to ensure no waste is produced throughout the straining process. We will continue showcasing its advantages to encourage customers to choose sustainable products.

■2019

Received a 2019 Japan Biodiversity Action Award in the Let’s Select category

At the Ministry of the Environment’s 2019 Japan Biodiversity Action Awards, part of the EcoPro 2019 event held at Tokyo Big Sight on December 5, 2019, FANCL received an award in the “Let’s Select” category for its Kale Juice and Hatsuga Genmai (germinated brown rice) initiatives. The Japan Biodiversity Action Awards aim to contribute to preventing the destruction of ecosystems on a global scale by recognizing activities by companies and in everyday life that excel in helping to conserve biodiversity. The Let’s Select category awards products and services that are considerate of ecosystems.
This is the second consecutive year that FANCL has won an award, after receiving one in FY Mar/2019 for Mutenka cosmetics. In FY Mar/2020, we received recognition for creating resource recycling systems that use the waste dregs from Kale Juice production and the waste rice fragments from Hatsuga Genmai production as fertilizer and feed for local farmers, as well as for actively disclosing information such as resource origins and processing locations.

Received the 7th Good Life Award Executive Committee Special Award Environmental and Social Innovation Award

Received the 7th Good Life Award Executive Committee Special Award Environmental and Social Innovation Award At the 7th Good Life Awards held at Tepia in Aoyama, Tokyo, on November 30, FANCL received the Committee Special Award Environmental and Social Innovation Award for our Eco at Home Program.
The Good Life Awards is a project sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment that supports activities that are beneficial to the environment and society. In FANCL’s Eco at Home Program, once every six months, employees whose total household charges for electricity, gas and water usage are 5% lower than the national average announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications are awarded with gift certificates based on the number of people in their household. The initiative has been carried out 22 times since it started in 2008. Over this period, around 5,000 employees have successfully reduced CO2 emissions, realizing a total reduction equivalent to 1,845 tons of CO2. In addition to reducing emissions within the Company, through this initiative we are also reducing household emissions while raising the environmental awareness of employees and encouraging environmental education in households with children.

FANCL awarded the "Award of Excellence" in the Ministry of the Environment's "Corporate Awards for Environmental Leadership Development 2018" (Awarded May 27, 2019)

FANCL was awarded the "Award of Excellence" in the "Corporate Awards for Environmental Leadership Development 2018" sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment. These awards are a system to recognize corporations conducting exceptional initiatives to develop talent that will lead efforts to ensure the greenness of the social economy and lead environmental conservation efforts towards the achievement of SDGs.
FANCL was awarded the prize for the following reasons.

  • - FANCL has formulated the FANCL Group "Sustainable Declaration", conducting internal study groups on "Sustainable Management", "ESG Investments", and "FSC Accrediation" with the aim of conducting environmental initiatives through business activities.
  • - FANCL also offers a "forest preservation experience" for new employees and actively participates in environmental volunteer activities with the region, passionately engaging in environmental education based on these experiences.
  • - From 2008, the company has also undertaken "activities to reduce CO2 in the home", which is also serving to raise environmental awareness.

FANCL will continue to conduct internal environmental awareness activities, pursuing "sustainable management" as a companywide effort.

■2018

FANCL awarded the "Grand Prize" in the 19th Green Purchasing Awards (December 7, 2018)

The awards ceremony for the "19th Green Purchasing Awards" sponsored by the Green Purchasing Network was held at Eco Pro 2018, held at Tokyo Big Sight, and FANCL was awarded the "Grand Prize (Large Enterprise Division)".
The Green Purchasing Awards are a system to recognize initiatives that contributed to expanding the green market and to the achievement of SDGs through "sustainable procurement".
FANCL formulated its Sustainable Declaration in June 2018, and is undertaking initiatives with its business partners to achieve its goals based on the environmental risks that accompany of procuring the biological resources that account for more than half of the raw materials for company products, switching to environmentally friendly paper by 2020, and successively switching raw ingredients by 2030.
FANCL was also comprehensively recognized for its initiatives such as employee workshops on the environment regarding "the use of environmentally friendly paper (FSC certified paper, etc.)" and "the use of Access to Genetic Resources and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) Guidelines". Going forward, FANCL will continue to strive for procurement and manufacturing with consideration for the environment, biodiversity, and human rights.

"FANCL GERMINATED BROWN RICE KIN NO IBUKI" receives the "Award of Excellence" at the Eco Pro Awards. (December 6, 2018)

The awards ceremony for the "1st Eco Pro Awards" sponsored by the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry was held at Eco Pro 2018, held at Tokyo Big Sight, and FANCL was awarded the "Jury Prize (Award of Excellence)".
The bran and rice germ ordinarily discarded when polishing rice into white rice is rich in nutrients, and "FANCL GERMINATED BROWN RICE KIN NO IBUKI", developed to enable cooking of the rice in a rice cooker by slightly germinating the brown rice that was difficult to cook, was recognized as an eco-friendly product.
By germinating the rice while washing it and softening the bran, the issues with brown rice, which was difficult to cook and difficult to absorb nutrients from was resolved, enhancing its ability to absorb water and allowing it to be cooked in a rice cooker. The unique concept of germinated brown rice was recognized, leading to the award, "This was an example that led to the successful reduction of approximately 500 tons of bran and rice germ waste, and is an unprecedented initiative from the perspective of the circulation of resources and food."
In addition, the rice fragments and bran generated when manufacturing the rice at the factory is not discarded but put to effective use and sold as chicken feed, agricultural compost, and as a material for mushroom beds, and the company's commitment to actively addressing recycling and food loss in collaboration with food banks was also recognized.

FANCL awarded the "Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award" in the Japan Packaging Contest 2018 (August 29, 2018)

FANCL's "MILD CLEANSING SHAMPOO" and "MOIST BODY WASH" were awarded the "Director-General of the Industrial Science and Technology Policy and Environment Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Award", one of the prestigious "Japan Star Awards" in the "Japan Packaging Contest 2018" sponsored by the Japan Packaging Institute.
The "Japan Packaging Contest 2018" selects exceptional products with the aim of popularizing exceptional packaging that meet the demands of society and the times and ensuring the spread of the technologies used to develop the packaging. Plant-derived plastics are used in the "MILD CLEANSING SHAMPOO" and "MOIST BODY WASH" containers, and the amount of plastic used was also reduced by 60% compared with conventional products. This is expected to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by approximately 40t per year, and the company's efforts to adapt to the environment were recognized, leading to the award.

Plant-derived plastics are a new material with plants high in starch such as sugar cane and corn as the main ingredient. The amount of CO2 emitted upon incineration or decomposition is equivalent to the amount of CO2 absorbed as the plant grows, and it is viewed as a promising resource in measures to address global warming as a resource that does not lead to the increase in global CO2 levels.

FANCL awarded the 25th Yokohama Environmental Activity Awards, Corporate Division Grand Prize (June 14, 2018)

The "Yokohama Environmental Activity Awards" are a system that recognizes corporations, organizations, and individuals who actively conduct various environmental conservation, regeneration, and creation initiatives in the region.
FANCL was recognized for its initiatives to reduce food waste through the recycling of rice with nonuniform size and shape (rice fragments) and bran generated during the process of producing "germinated brown rice", and received the "Grand Prize" in the Corporate Division. An employee in charge of environmental issues attended the awards ceremony held at the residence of the Mayor of Yokohama on June 14th, and received the award certificate from the Deputy Mayor of Yokohama Kazumi Kobayashi.

Received the Exceptional Business Award for Plans to Address Global Warming in Business Activities (May 25, 2018)

The FANCL B&H Nagano Factory (Nagano Factory, hereafter) was awarded the "Exceptional Business Award for Plans to Address Global Warming in Business Activities (Primary Plan Period)" conducted by Nagano Prefecture.
The "Exceptional Business Award for Plans to Address Global Warming in Business Activities" targets approximately 300 corporations in Nagano Prefecture, recognizing five businesses who have proactively undertaken the promotion of measures to address global warming with noteworthy results.
The Nagano Factory made an effort to identify and reduce the amount of energy used in collaboration with the power company, and was recognized for reducing the amount of energy used by shortening the times of the drying process for "germinated brown rice" and shortening the waiting times in the transport process.

FANCL awarded the "Award of Excellence in the Environmental Report Division" of the "21st Environmental Communication Awards" (February 21, 2018)

FANCL was awarded the "Award of Excellence in the Environmental Report Division" of the "Environmental Communication Awards", intended to promote and enhance the quality of the environmental initiatives of businesses by recognizing exceptional environmental reports, etc. FANCL was recognized for its disclosure of its numerous cutting-edge initiatives in its "FANCL Report 2017" and on the "environmental information page of its corporate website".

FANCL selected as a finalist in the corporate division of the "8th Low-Carbon Cup 2018", receives the Award for Excellence (February 15, 2018)

In the "8th Low-Carbon Cup 2018", which has the aim of mutually sharing know-how and information on initiatives and promoting collaboration through the presentation of unique activities in accordance with the characteristics of the region or organization for the prevention of global warming and the realization of a low-carbon society in front of many people, FANCL was selected to be one of 30 organizations (out of 1167 applicants) to make an on-stage presentation as a finalist. FANCL presented its "delivery to designated locations service" that it has been implementing for 20 years to reduce the CO2 generated through redelivery of parcels, and was awarded the Award for Excellence.

FANCL awarded the fiscal 2017 "Energy Conservation Center Chairman's Award" in the Energy Conservation Awards (Energy Conservation Division) (February 14, 2018)

The "energy conservation activities of the entire Group through the adoption of the 'Comprehensive Energy Conservation Platform'" by FANCL B&H Corporation were awarded the "Energy Conservation Center Chairman's Award" in the Energy Conservation Division of the fiscal 2017 Energy Conservation Awards sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center.
In addition to closely examining the operating status of boilers and compressors that use a large amount of energy and taking measures to address the issue by innovating suppression methods and updating equipment, the company adopted the "Comprehensive Energy Conservation Platform". By building a network of devices, a 1,071kL reduction in energy (minus 21%) was assessed for the group as a whole crude oil equivalents, leading to this award.

■2017

Awarded the "Yokohama City 3Rs of Food Kiraboshi Activity Award" (November 8, 2017)

In fiscal 2017, the "Yokohama City 3Rs of Food Kiraboshi Activity Awards" were established as a new system for recognizing businesses dedicated to reducing food loss and that serve as a role model for others.
FANCL was recognized for its efforts to accurately assess the number of users of its employee cafeteria through the number of meal tickets sold, preparing food accordingly to prevent leftover food, and received an award in the "Prevention of Occurrence Category". At the awards ceremony, an award certificate was presented from Deputy Mayor of Yokohama City Toshihide Hirahara to Director and Vice-Chairman Kazuyoshi Miyajima.
FANCL's other initiatives to recycle the bran and rice fragments from "germinated brown rice" and the juiced kale used as a raw ingredient in "aojiru" as animal feed were also introduced.

FANCL personnel in charge of environmental issues discussed their future intentions, commenting, "We are extremely honored to be the first recipient of this award. Going forward, we will continue to behave responsibly and continue our responsible initiatives as a local corporation."

Awarded the Bronze Prize in the Green Ocean Awards by Alterna Magazine (May 31, 2017)

Kale, the raw ingredient for Kale Juice, being grown

FANCL was awarded the "Alterna Green Ocean Awards 2017 Bronze Prize" for its < rejuvenation of a town in "mandarin mikan decline" with Kale Juice >. FANCL launched a production factory for Kale Juice jointly with the Higashi-Uwa JA Japan Agricultural Cooperative in Nomura-cho, Seiyo-shi, Ehime Prefecture in April 2002, establishing "Green Hill) (Seiyo-shi), a corporation that runs the factory through the third sector format. Although it had boasted the second largest shipment volume of Satsuma mandarins in Japan, in the last 25 years, shipment volume had fallen to approximately half. By growing the kale that is the raw ingredient for FANCL Kale Juice and having FANCL distribute the Kale Juice, the company sought to backup the community both by providing local employment opportunities and through the shipment of agricultural products.
Use of the squeezed kale as animal feed began in 2007, and in fiscal 2017, 271 tons of squeezed kale, or 95.0% of the 285 tons of squeezed kale generated, was used for animal feed.
Going forward, the company will study cultivation technologies and increase the volume of kale produced to contribute to the region.

■2016

FANCL awarded the "Cosmetic Packaging Division Award" (August 30, 2016)

The ATTENIR "SKIN CLEAR CLEANSE OIL ECO PACK" was awarded the "Cosmetics Packaging Award" in the "2016 Japan Packaging Contest" on August 30, 2016. This product is a standing pouch with attached pump and seeks to reduce the amount of waste generated in consideration of the environment. It is sold as an eco-pack and used by setting it in a special holder. In addition, the company also considered and developed the structure of the refill and special holder, successfully reducing the amount of residual liquid in the packaging, creating a design that makes the product easy for customers to use.
